About

The Wellington Dam was built to supply water to the southwest of Western Australia and is the second-largest surface water catchment in Western Australia.  The reservoir holds roughly 50 billion gallons for agriculture and industry in the surrounding region. The dam is situated a short distance from the town of Collie, and the reservoir serves as popular destination for boating, fishing, picnicking, and camping.

In 2021, Wellington Dam was brought to life by Australian artist Guido Van Helten, the mastermind behind the mural that now decorates the structure. The massive painting is claimed to be the largest dam mural in the world. The work is titled Reflections and depicts Indigenous Australians playing, fishing, and living daily life. Before starting, Van Helten spent several weeks in the local communities, talking to and learning the stories of the local people.

Guido Van Helten has developed a reputation across Australia and worldwide for his ability to transform industrial settings into modern works of art.
